Lamont Recall Status Update:
Bakersfield, CA, January 17, 2024 - Kern County Elections Division verified that there are not enough valid signatures to qualify for a recall petition.
Bakersfield, CA, December 19, 2023 - On December 4th, petitions were received in the Kern County Elections Division for the recall of four (4) Lamont School Board members. Each petition must have 1150 valid signatures; signatures are verified and considered valid as per California Code of Regulations Section 20930 and 20931.
The Elections Division is currently reviewing signatures. The Division has 30 days from the date the petition was submitted to verify signatures and anticipates it will be completed before the 30 days. If the petition has the required number of valid signatures, the school board will call an election. The election must be held within 88-125 days.
A determination that a recall petition has a sufficient number of valid signatures does not remove the officer sought to be recalled from office. If the petition is sufficient and an election is to be held, the voters of the district will vote on whether or not the officers should be recalled.
